First Day of school

A letter to my daughter on her EYFS Graduation

Oh, my sweet baby girl. It’s your EYFS graduation day today. I can’t believe your time at EYFS has so quickly come to an end. It is here that you started a new school, had your first teacher and made your first set your friends. Mummy and Papa were not sure about how you would adjust, but you’ve made us so proud.

We still remember that first day of school

You woke up very excited on the first day of your FS1 class. Wearing a blue denim dress with little black hair clips in your short hair, you posed for your ‘First day of FS1’ picture. Your new ‘Shimmer and Shine’ school bag with you, you were ready to go to school. Mummy, papa and little baby brother came to drop you off in class in papa’s car. You wanted to pull your school bag by your self, already keen to show responsibility. We met your teacher, and you introduced yourself even though you were shy. After finding your seat and some colouring sheets to colour on, we kissed you and sneaked out. We didn’t want to say goodbye, worried about how you might react. Or who would cry.

You didn’t, my brave girl. We returned back after a couple of hours to see you happy and smiling, and it filled us with so much happiness. After that first day, it was smooth sailing, all the way to FS2. You even adjusted to a new school, and with it a new teacher and friends for FS2. Adding to it the adjustments to make due to the Covid pandemic, you’ve gone on to continue making us proud.

And now you move on to primary school

It’s graduation day today, and you are having a virtual graduation ceremony with your class friends and teachers. A little sad that the pandemic has meant you can’t hug your teacher to say thank you, or your friends to tell them how much you will miss them. However, we are having a little graduation party at home, and hoping this celebration will be cherished for years to come.

After summer it’s going to be a new school uniform, new bag and new teachers. However, we don’t want to think about that right now. Today, we want to tell you how proud we are for all the achievements you have made the last two years, the skills you’ve picked up, the gold medal at sports day and the new friends you’ve made. We have enjoyed listening to your stories after school at pick up time. We have felt proud hearing the praises your teacher have made about you.

Mummy and papa are not sure what your future holds. Maybe your love for stories will inspire you to publish a best selling novel, maybe you curiosity for space and rockets will be the reason for building a residential colony on planet Mars, or maybe your interest in animals will lead to the opening of a conservation centre and protect the wild cats (your fav!). Regardless of what the future holds, we are sure it is going to be wonderful and we can’t wait to see it.

Azmu, my darling, you will always be wonderful, and intelligent, you will always be beautiful and strong, you will always be kind and hardworking.

Mummy and Papa are proud of you, and will always be.

Thank you for reading my open letter, and if you enjoyed reading this, there a few other letters you may also enjoy.
