UAE National Day craft: Painting the UAE Emblem

You’ve already made the UAE flag last year, for your child’s school. And a painting of the many iconic buildings in UAE the year before. Are you looking for something other than these usual crafts for UAE national day?  You’ve already spent hours on  Google and Pinterest looking for ideas, because this year you want to craft or paint something different. Well, let me help you out with a simple, yet colourful craft that Azmu and I did together at home. It is quick to set up, needs minimum supervision and won’t take too long. Oh, and it’s a lot of fun!

UAE Coat of Arms:

Our craft is going to display the UAE Coat of Arms, also known as the UAE emblem. Did you know that this emblem was adopted in 1973 and later modified in 2008. It is composed of a golden falcon holding onto a red parchment depicting the name of the country in Kufic script. Also, centred on the falcon’s chest is a disc representing the national flag, with seven stars representing the seven emirates of UAE.

The craft that we are going to create with this coat of arms  is not only a wonderful way to learn about the colours of the UAE flag and their significance , but also learn about the importance and history of the UAE Coat of Arms, with the utmost respect.

Materials:

  • Pencil
  • White paper
  • Paints: Red, black, green, yellow (white is optional)
  • Fork
  • Black marker

Method:

  1. Draw the outline of a UAE Coat of Arms on a blank paper. There is no need to define the feathers on the falcon’s wings and tails.
  2. Dip a fork in the paint of choice and place on paper to make feather like marks. Create a row of ‘feathers’. Repeat with a different colour to make a different row of ‘feathers’. Lastly repeat with the third colour. If using white paint, you can make a fourth row of ‘feathers’ too.
  3. Do so similarly at the falcon’s tail.
  4. Paint the UAE flag on the centre of the falcon’s chest. Colour the beak and legs of the mighty falcon with yellow paint.
  5. Allow to dry and then finally go over your outline with a think black marker.
  6. Feel free to colour in the background or cut out the UAE coat of arms to display elsewhere.

HAPPY NATIONAL DAY!

Azmu and I love the fact that we can call this diverse country our ‘home’, and we enjoy getting involved with all the UAE National Day celebrations happening around the country at this time of the year. This craft, is our way of saying thank you to UAE and to it’s leaders. Just as this craft  and the significance of this emblem has given us the opportunity to learn about UAE’s history, we hope we’ve been able to share the knowledge with you too.
