Review: Ubitoyz, a virtual toy closet

Summer vacations are great, until you realise your two weeks of holiday went by in the blink of an eye and now you are back home with a house full of energy fuelled kids, who seem to have run out of things to destroy play with.

To save your sanity, you have a few play dates organised, a few printed handouts for them to get creative on and a few animal documentaries to watch online and imitate. You even mange to set up a few physical games to burn off energy that they seem to save up in an invisible power bank, however, you are all out of ideas by mid-week. And just when you think it would be a good idea to take them to the mall, they somehow manage to find a toy store and convince you to buy that really expensive toy that they just can’t seem to do without.

Pulling your hair already? I think I can help you out.

How does it work?

Before you can rent out toys, you need to decide which subscription plan suits you well.

plans

Once the decision has been made, you can log onto the Ubitoyz website and create an account. Depending on your membership you can choose upto 3 toys from the basic and/or premium selection of toys, make the online payment and simply wait for the toys to arrive at your doorstep at your preferred time.

The membership plans are monthly, which means you are free to enjoy the selected toys for upto 30 days, before exchanging them with another set of toys.

Just like any other rental service, Ubitoyz also collect a small deposit at the time of your first delivery, in case of damages to the toys, which is refunded hassle-free.

My experience;a very positive one.

It was very easy to set up an online membership account, and navigating through the website to search for rental toys was a breeze. With my ‘Basic plan’ I was going to rent out two toys and firstly, chose to go with a ‘Sort and Discover Drum’ by VTech, aiming to teach my daughter some different shapes, numbers and animal sounds through sound and play to enhance her spatial and kinaesthetic learning. For the second toy, I chose to rent out a toddler slide by Little Tikes which would allow my daughter and nephew for some physical play without having to face the unbearable outdoor heat. A couple of days later, the delivery call arrived confirming my house address and the packages were delivered at a time convenient to me.

Both toys were packed securely, and when opening I had to make sure I was very careful not to lose any toy parts and safely store all parts of the packaging for when I would have to return them. The instruction manuals and batteries were included, which meant once set up, the children were able to play straight away.

At any point if I had any questions, Ubitoyz was always available to help with answers and once again calling them after a month for the collection of toys was a simple process. The rental toys not only benefited my pocket but I also noticed my daughter get more confident at independent play and recognising shapes and colours.

About Ubitoyz

Ubitoyz is a fairly new UAE based company, set up by mumpreneurs Rachna Bhatia and Neha Mayor, that aims to provide ‘endless learning and fun to your child while catering to your purchasing needs as well.’

Rachna tells me about their inspiration behind setting up this amazing online store that takes care of parents’ buying and renting needs while providing a selection of toys that help develop their child’s skills and creativity output. Rachna and Neha have been in UAE for more than 10 years and decided to take leave from the corporate world of Marketing and HR after the birth of their children. As new parents, they both soon realised that they were spending a lot of time and money on new toys to keep the young ones engaged. It didn’t always seem to go to plan as some toys the children would get bored of easily while others were left unopened due to a lack of interest. Expressing their concern led to the realisation that most parents were experiencing a similar issue. This resulted in an idea of a toy rental concept that lead to the birth of Ubitoyz.

Even with a strong background in business and the support of their families, setting up Ubitoyz had its own set of challenges. However, it’s only been two months since the soft launch in May 2017 and these two wonderful business women have managed very well to juggle the priorities of parenthood and set up a completely new rental concept, and a first, in the UAE. It is empowering to see these women start a small business born out of sincere passion, and envision seeing their dream turn into a lead player of toy sourcing and distribution in five years time.

If you have more questions or would like to support these inspiring mumpreneurs, please find more information on their website, or get in touch through Facebook or Instagram.

I would like to thank Rachna Bhatia for giving me this opportunity to get to know her and collaborate together. I wish the future of Ubitoyz be paved with immense success.
